Fashions of the 1920s

One of the most transitional decades of all time was the 1920s. Women were sporting short, straight hair for the first time ever, waistlines that were previously a sign of femininity and were the most important feature in creating a feminine line.
The 20s rebelled against the tradition by allowing women to go without a corset. And for the first time in decades chubby waistlines relaxed in straight, non fitted dresses. Most women looked like a sack of potatoes, but the models had a way of looking elegant in these straight and shapeless gowns that were often accessorized with long hanging beads that further accentuated the long shapeless appearance of the silhouette.
It is interesting to view wedding dresses of the royal family and see the changes in style over hundreds of decades. The dress that stands out as being rather plebeian is of course the queen mother's gown from the 20's. The queen was no slender model type, and she wore a high fashion 1920's wedding gown that had no shape to it. It could have looked elegant on Louise Brooks, or some other great and slender beauty of the time, but on the chubby queen mother it looked like she was wearing another woman's wedding gown.
